Double the Pleasure. Double the Fun.

January 8th is a busy day in my family, but always a good one. It is both my Grandma's birthday as well as my little brother's. We celebrated the double birthday at my parents house.

Nathan is the baby of the family so its crazy and hard to believe he's 14! This year Tyler & I got him an LSU Jersey...he loves LSU but the Jersey is an adult size and they don't make them smaller, so we were a little worried about giving it to him since its not one he can actually wear, but we had no reason to be worried. I figured it could go one of two ways. He'd be excited about it or he'd like it but show no enthusiasm. I didn't know there was a third option. He opened it and at first there was no reaction....and then he pulled it out and went nuts. It was really funny and I'm glad he loved it! Nana seemed to love her presents too. Just not enough to jump up and down screaming. Maybe next year?

This picture turned out super yellow. I keep telling my mom she needs to paint because the lighting and paint color make for awful lighting! This is it AFTER I attempted to edit.
Sooo this is Nathan's reaction to his jersey.
It was a lot funnier initially but I wasn't videotaping so this was actually round 2 of his excitement. Really its not worth watching after the first 20 seconds.

Yesterday.

Yesterday was a pretty eventful day....

We went to the BYU vs. Airforce Basketball game.
And of course BYU won :)

Then we had dinner with two VERY special people.
It was my Nana's Birthday!
...and it was Nate's birthday too!
We celebrated with both of them at P.F. Changs!
And then back to my Nana's for cake & presents.
The cake sort of fell out of the freezer.
It was really funny.

My dad doesn't find the humor in this sort of thing so we had this big plan of how to hide the damage from him (My Mom, Me, and Natalie). My mom was still getting candles on the cake, but Natalie and I went back into the living room where everyone was. A few minutes later we heard a thud in the kitchen. Thinking of the cake again, Natalie and I kind of just looked at each other and laughed. Of course, my dad, being how he is...instantly said, "What was that?" Which made us laugh harder...thinking he was funny and COMPLETELY kidding says, "Oh, it was the birthday cake!" So of course Natalie and I are laughing hysterically and even funnier, I was sitting on the arm of a chair, and because of my laughter I fall off the and continue to laugh EVEN harder til I am laughing so hard, it hurts. At this point my dad and Tyler wouldn't leave us alone, trying to figure out what was so hysterical and why we can't stop laughing--which in turn, just kept us thinking about it, so we continued to laugh. And of course, we couldn't just tell them a ruin the nice cake surprise! Needless to say it made the night much more entertaining and memorable.

Happy Birthday Nana & Nate!
Hope you had fabulous days!
Love you Both!

Its clear he's NOT an Eagle Scout YET!!!

So yesterday afternoon I called home looking for my sister who wasn't answering her cell phone. Nate answered & talked to me for a bit before he decided to inform me that he had STABBED himself with a knife. Yes, I said STABBED. I didn't even think it was for real. He's kind of turned into an onoxious little tween lately...so I thought he was pulling my leg. But I asked and he was serious. Then he proceeded to tell me it was bleeding really bad, but he didn't think it was too bad of a cut.

He was home alone but luckily my dad works semi close and rushed home to take him to the ER. 10 stitches later, and his leg was back in tact.

Funny thing is on the phone with me while he was waiting for my dad Nate thought the whole thing was sooo funny! This is how the conversation went.

Nate: Nicole, want to know something sooo funny?

Me: Sure.

Nate: So I was sitting there with my pocket knife & thinking about the scout motto and all that good stuff, and how we're NEVER supposed to cut toward ourselves...and right as I was thinking I should stop cutting that way I stabbed my leg....(he then proceeded to laugh).

Needless to say, he's still got to learn a few more things before he gets his Eagle.

I think he learned to be more careful with knives though...he learned stitches hurt WAY more than actually stabbing your leg...and the Emergency Room is no fun!

...however, he did think it pretty cool that his knife had blood on it. And was very excited to show me the blood on his shoes this morning! --gross!

Soccer, Good Food, and Baseball.

Nathan had a soccer tournament that has gone on the last few days in West Jordan.
Yesterday I was able to go up and watch one of his games.
Even though they lost, it was really fun to see him play with his new team.
After we went to lunch at Chili's to re-fuel Nathan and his best friend, Brady, so they could be ready for their next game.
The boys were super goofy and definitely entertaining for me & my mom at lunch.
Me & My Mom at Chili's
It's blurry thanks to Nathan and all his giggles causing the camera to shake!
Nate & his friend Brady.
As you can see they couldn't stop laughing long enough for a picture!

Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for the second game because I had to be to work, but the days fun wasn't over. After work Tyler & I took Nathan to the Owlz game with us, where we had lots of fun cheering for the Owlz & in Nathan's case, the opposing team! He loves opposition. We also had lots of fun talking about other matters, like Nathan's 6th grade crush. Its always enjoyable seeing his face turn red. By the time the game was over we were all starving so we hit up Applebees for some 1/2 price appetizers!

The Highlight of My Weekend

Yes, it was Halloween....and yes I had lots of fun...
Surprisingly though, my favorite part of the weekend was one very SMALL moment I had at home.
I was at my Parent's house on Friday night to pick some stuff up, before heading off to a Halloween dance. I ended up being there much longer than planned and just kinda relaxed with my brother and parents. I was headed downstairs to change into my halloween costume just before leaving and my little brother, Nate, and mom were standing at the top of the stairs. Nate looks at my mom and says "I'm going with her!" (Referring to going to my room, not to the dance). I looked at him and said, "Why?" He goes, "Because you're fun." Suddenly, I had no desire to go out that night at all! I had obligations to people though, and so of course, I did leave, but I would have loved to have stayed. I know it sounds so simple, but coming from him, it meant the WORLD! It's probably one of the nicest things he has EVER said to me. When he was really little, he was my best bud. I packed the little guy everywhere with me. Then one day he decided he was TOO GOOD for me, and ever since likes to be rude to me anytime I am around. Most the time, it is in good humor. He just doesn't like to admit he likes his sister, but NEVER does he speak so nicely...especially without you asking him...So THANK YOU Nate, for making my weekend!!! Love you bud.

Oh, and for the record! I think you're fun too! ;)
